The Woman, The Voice, The legacy
Aanchal Shrivastava is one of the rare contemporary voices carrying the tradition of
Qawwali and Sufi music with both authenticity and individuality — and among the very
few women performing Qawwali in its original form.
Her music is rooted above all in the poetry of Bulleh Shah, alongside Amir Khusrau,
Baba Farid, Jigar Moradabadi, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and the living tradition of Indian
folk. Each rendered not as tribute, but as testimony. Her voice moves between surrender
and defiance, grief and ecstasy — deeply intimate yet commanding, holding it all without
apology.
In a time when stillness has become scarce, Aanchal offers something increasingly rare
— the space to turn inward. Audiences don't just witness her perform. They meet
themselves in the process.
